Interviewing Karl Dooling

This was my first interview that I had done. I interviewed Karl Dooling. I was excited to film this interview because it was the first film that I had shot using people not plushies. I learned how to set up the camera and lights and also position the camera and lights to get a good angle following the rule of thirds. I liked the angle that we got with the camera and we shot in the library where the lighting is very bright so we used our lights to make sure there weren't any shadows on the person being interviewed. One problem I came across while editing was that Karl didn't always repeat the question that was asked so I had to edit a lot of those answers out. There was also one question that I asked and Karl and I talked over each other so I couldn't use that either. Another issue I came across while editing is Karl didn't have any pictures of his dog, him playing golf, or his family so I had to find pictures on the Internet and I don't like the looks of it.

Being Interviewed

This wasn't my first time being interviewed so I kind of knew what to expect. For example, I knew that I was going to have to repeat the questions that I was asked and it was easier this time than it was the last time I was interviewed. I was interviewed last year by Jordan Smith because I was part of the French Exchange. I like being interviewed about a certain topic rather than just basic questions because I think it makes it harder to edit because it seems really choppy. I think knowing this will help me in the future as I'm interviewing more people and will keep that in mind.

Being Behind the Camera

This was my first time being behind the camera for an interview. It was kind of challenging because I had very little experience with the camera and no experience with the tripods, lights, and microphone. We were filming in the library so we didn't have to use a lot of light. We had some background noise from another group that was filming behind us along with other people in the library. We got a good angle with the camera but the chair everyone was sitting in sort of made us slouch so next time I'll keep that in mind.

Interviewing Katie Kelly

For my second interview, I interviewed Katie Kelly. This time we were on our own without any advanced student helping us. For my second interview, I wanted to ask more interesting questions rather than basic getting to know the person you're interviewing. So, we came up with a couple of odd questions. While interviewing Katie, I wanted to make sure that when she answered, she repeated the question. One challenge I had when I started editing was there was some background activity so there were times when Katie's eyes would wander during her answer or she would look somewhere else. There were also times that I cut a piece of her answer out but she sat up straighter or fixed her hair so when I cut the film, it's kind of choppy in places.

Being Interviewed #2

Being interviewed again, I learned from the previous interview and tried to stay focused on the interviewer and repeat the question when I answer. The challenging part of this is that there were people in the background so it was a little distracting. The questions we asked each other were definitely odd questions so there were times that I wasn't sure how to answer them and when I finally did, I either repositioned myself while sitting so I was afraid it was going to look choppy.

Being Behind the Camera #2

This time being behind the camera was less challenging to my surprise. I was nervous because it was going to be just us working the camera, lights, and microphone and it was only our second time using them. I was working the camera while Katie was interviewing Audrey. One challenge with the lights was trying not to wash out Audrey's face because of her blonde hair. We didn't use a lot of added light because along with the lights from the Hunter Seminar Room, her complexion and hair are both very light.
